"These jewel-like paintings intuitively fuse different aesthetic traditions, folk art and old master, with natural grace and an uncanny quality that may be a species of magic." —American Arts Quarterly
The fountains mingle with the river
And the rivers with the ocean,
The winds of heaven mix for ever
With a sweet emotion;
Nothing in the world is single;
All things by a law divine
In one spirit meet and mingle.
Why not I with thine?—
See the mountains kiss high heaven
And the waves clasp one another;
No sister-flower would be forgiven
If it disdained its brother;
And the sunlight clasps the earth
And the moonbeams kiss the sea:
What is all this sweet work worth
If thou kiss not me?
I just finished the body of work for my show which opens tomorrow, Friday, June 6, 5-7 pm at the Meyer East Gallery in Santa Fe. There are lots of new pieces built around the theme “Tesoro Mio” ~ a show full of many treasured objects and beloveds.
I’ve always loved the name “Dorabella.” I was painting this while listening to Mozart’s opera “Cosi Fan Tutte” ~ and it was natural to name this piece “Dorabella” after one of the characters. I think that “Dorabella” means “beautiful” (bella) “gift” (dora.)
I have donated the small watercolor above to benefit The Santa Fe Artist’s Emergency Medical Fund. I did not put a reserve on this work and the default starting bid is $50. So please come and bid to support this worthy cause. This year’s annual party and silent auction ~ over 100 Santa Fe artists participating ~ will be held this Sunday, December 15 4-6:30 pm at the Yares Art Projects on 123 Grant Avenue.
