RECOLLECTED: Portraits of Enchantment June 16th – June 29th, 2023
with an opening reception on Friday, June 16th, 5-7 p

This latest body of work presented at the Meyer Gallery in Santa Fe is directly inspired by the landscape, flora and fauna of New Mexico. The show is small and intimate and the pieces will be included in my upcoming retrospective show at the Millicent Rogers Museum in Taos, New Mexico. Santa Fe has been my adopted home for the past 15 years and I have grown to love its seasons, the clarity of its light and its unique culture.

The centerpiece painting, “Journey’s End: Winged Victory and Jaguar at Rest” is representative of the themes I have been exploring: that which center on our relationships with the natural world and the amalgamation of my personal experiences and influences―Filipino, American, New Mexican, old world and new. There used to be jaguars in the American Southwest, a fact that I only recently found out. Their extirpation from the U.S.is a sad loss. The girl recalling my Philippine heritage is Nike, or Winged Victory, she faces away from the viewer, in a wistful attitude perhaps in remembrance of lives lived and places discovered. The landscape is evocative of northern New Mexico, with monsoon clouds looming, but there is also a clearing in the sky, full of promises.

Please inquire with Meyer Gallery to receive the show preview and availability.
