I am drawn to this work’s simplicity and humble message. It is a small composition of clasped hands with two little budgies. Emily Dickinson’s words came to me― “Hope” is the thing with feathers.

“Hope” is the thing with feathers –
That perches in the soul –
And sings the tune without the words –
And never stops – at all –

And sweetest – in the Gale – is heard –
And sore must be the storm –
That could abash the little Bird
That kept so many warm –

I’ve heard it in the chillest land –
And on the strangest Sea –
Yet – never – in Extremity,
It asked a crumb – of me.

~ Emily Dickinson

Love brings forth grief at our loss and yet there is always hope that despair shall be overcome. This little painting of clasped hands on which are perched two feathered symbols of hope—Together―is central to this new series, like a new beginning rising from darkness.
