These small pieces are notable for the technical skill they display as well as the delicacy of the full-faced subjects they depict. As Ronquillo suggests, there is the sense that the viewer is stepping into a moment in which s/he was not expected. The placid expressions of the figures suggests that the viewer is welcome, but there is also a slightly withdrawn sense about the characters, as though the welcome, while honest, comes with a note of caution, too.
